PRODUCTS PAGE As part of the Lower Colorado River Basin GAP (LCRB GAP), we are developing three catagories of products - Habitat Data, Species Information, and Bibliography Databases. The habitat and species datasets will be used to define conservation areas within the basin based on predicted distribution of native versus non-native fishes, ecosystem traits, and threats. The biblographic dataset is being compiled at the request of stakeholders to facilitate access to unpublished literature that is often difficult to locate. HABITAT DATA At this time, the habitat data site links to a webserver that displays maps of streams within the Verde River Basin. We are soliciting expert review of the flow designations (intermittent/perennial). These data currently are a compilation of classifications from USGS National Hydrography Dataset and Arizona Game and Fish Department. This dataset should be considered a draft, not a final product. The habitat data are being derived from existing raw data sets including locations for man-made structures, and landscape-level environmental data. Once these datasets are complete and have been approved, these will be available online to download. SPECIES DATA At this time, the species information site links to a webserver that displays maps of fish records within the Verde River Basin. We are soliciting expert review of the species occurrences in the LCRB GAP database. We are asking reviewers to examine the species maps for 1) species records outside their reasonable range and 2) areas where records are missing. The Verde sample sites have been checked for geographic accuracy using all location details (i.e., geographic coordinates, site descriptions) provided with the site record. Sites with conflicting information that could not be resolved were removed from the database. The next step is to screen for inaccurate records in the database. This will be the final task before modeling fish distributions for the Verde Basin. If you are interested in assisting with this effort, please go to the species information site for details. Eventually, the species information site will include final maps that depict predicted distributions of fishes. These maps will be derived from the fish occurrence database that is being compiled through cooperation of many agencies, universities, and museums. Many of these datasets are not publically available so specific information about individual records will not be displayed. BIBLIOGRAPHIC DATABASES The second bibliography is a database for bonytail (Gila elegans), humpback chub (Gila cypha), Colorado pikeminnow (Ptychocheilus lucius), flannelmouth sucker (Catostomus latipinnis) and razorback sucker (Xyrauchen texanus). It was compiled by Arizona State University and a searchable version is available online. We imported this database into two bibliographic reference programs (Endnote and Procite) that can be downloaded for individual use. |
